romanticized suicide
Acts of love in media are often associated with a sacrifice. The guy giving his life for the girl, a hero giving their life for the world, or even a show about mental health that makes the idea of dying romantic.
I took two contradicting pieces of media and design them together, the first being The Sorrow of Young Werther, and compared it to survivors stories. This was done to show the reality of suicide, it isn’t romantic like the media makes it seem.
I wanted to show this contrast of message through the gradual decay in the book. As the statement “I Want To Die” becomes smaller and smaller, the colors become less saturated. This creating the feeling of rot until there is blackness at the final page.
